The Magic of Creating Your Reality

At the very end of the Harry Potter series, Dumbledore shares a profound quote that has stayed with me over the years. (Spoiler alert!) When Harry "dies" and goes to the "other side," he sees Dumbledore, who had also passed away, and asks him:

“Is this all real? Or is it just happening inside my head?”

Dumbledore replies: “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry. But why on earth should that mean it is not real?”

People might wonder if Harry and Dumbledore were just crazy, but they don’t—because in their magical world, anything is possible. Whether it was real or happening inside Harry’s head didn’t matter. Because it is magic.

So, what if we applied a little magic to our own lives?

In the world of personal development, it’s often said that you must “see it in your mind” before a goal or dream can manifest. This means you have to create the vision of the result, lifestyle, or dream you desire in your head before it can take shape in reality.

I personally do this through journaling and creating vision boards. I fill my walls with pictures of the goals, dreams, and the lifestyle I want and look at them every day. I also write out the characteristics or accomplishments I aspire to achieve in my gratitude and affirmation journal.

Why? Because I want to live in a way that feels as if anything is achievable. To do that, I must first tap into my own creativity. Then I must keep these goals top of mind every single day so I can work toward them both consciously and subconsciously.

I actually spoke my husband into being. I was very intentional—100 things intentional to be exact—about the kind of man I wanted to marry. I knew what I wanted—who I wanted. And I found him. I lived it in my mind and it came to be. Magic maybe?

Of course, every goal or dream needs a "why." Why do I want to be a better wife and mother? Why do I want that new house? Why do I want to give a TEDx SLC talk? Why do I want to publish a book?

It’s okay to want all the things we desire. But when we want them with clear intentions and put in genuine effort, they become not only possible but within our reach.

I believe I can have all of these things. Right now, they’re all in my head—but that doesn’t mean they aren’t real. Dumbledore was onto something!

The process of envisioning something in your mind and then working to make it happen in your life is both empowering and beautiful. But just because I want something doesn’t mean it will automatically happen. It takes focus, energy, enthusiasm, intention, and effort, to get what lives in our heads into reality.

Moral of the Story:

What’s inside your head? What do you want for your life in 2025? Now is the perfect time to make a list of those goals, dreams, and the lifestyle you’ve imagined. Just because it’s inside your head doesn’t mean it can’t be real. The magic starts now! Create a vision board, start a journal, or find an accountability partner. Let’s make some magic happen this Christmas season!
